When your are troubleshooting your computer's Internet connection, you are sometimes asked to find your IP address. This guide will show you the easiest methods to find out what your current IP address is.

External IP Address

If you have a working Internet connection, the simplest way is to visit a web site that will report the IP address your PC is using to talk on the Internet. Our favorites are:

What is my IP

Internal IP Address

If, on the other hand, you are behind a router or firewall, your external IP address (the one your Internet connection is using) may differ from your internal IP address (the one your actual PC is using).

If you are using Windows 95, 98, or ME, click on Start, then Run.... Type in
winipcfg
That will show you all your relevant IP information, including the address.

If you have Windows 2000 or XP, click on Start, then Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt. When the Command Prompt window appears, type in
ipconfig /all
