The AVG anti-malware software is very good at getting rid of some of the peskier spyware out there. The free version is excellent, and is owned by a company we trust, Grisoft (who also makes the free AVG anti-virus program).

Note: We recommend following these directions ONLY if you have already gone through the steps in our Get Rid of Spyware guide.

First, download AVG security suite. Once it has finished downloading, double-click on the downloaded file to start the installation.

  • Accept all of the default options during the Installation
  • Start AVG.
  • In the main Ewido window, look for the Resident Shield option and make sure that it is set to Inactive. If it is active, click on Change State and set it to Inactive.
  • Click on the Update icon at the top of the Ewido window.
  • Click the Start Update button to download the latest updates to the program.
  • When the update is complete, close down Ewido.
Next, you will need to reboot into safe mode.
  • Restart your computer and press F8 just before windows starts (before the Windows logo screen appears).
  • Choose Safe Mode from the menu that appears.

Now, run the AVG anti-malware program and have it check your PC for infections.
  • In the AVG window, click the Scanner icon
  • Then click Complete System Scan.
  • When the scan has completred, take the recommended action with all items by clicking the Apply all Actions button.
  • Then click Save Report and save the Report-Scan.txt file to your Desktop.
  • Close AVG security suite.
