If your PC gets an error message when you boot up that states:
cproc.exe  Application failed to initialize properly

Your computer may be infected with the Alcan worm. We'll show you how to remove it from your PC.

The cproc.exe file is malware that usually resides in a directory called crunner in C:\Windows\system32\. If you are getting the error above, it usually means that your anti-virus program caught and killed the cproc.exe worm, but remnants still remain in your startup files. Follow the steps below to find and delete any remnants of cproc.exe , then search your computer for any other Alcan worm infections.

You should bookmark or print this page before proceeding.

Step A: Run Online Virus Scanners

Now run the Panda ActiveScan virus scanner and the Housecall virus scanner as detailed in Step 1 of our guide to Get Rid of Spyware, Adware, and Web Browser Hijackers.

Step B: Run HijackThis

Continue with the instructions in the Get Rid of Spyware guide. When you reach Step 5 in that guide you will run a program called HijackThis. In the HijackThis screen, you will be looking for an entry that look like this:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [cprocsvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\crunner\cproc.exe

Check that entry and have HijackThis fix it.

Now reboot your computer.

After it restarts, find the crunner directory in C:\Windows\system32\ and delete it.

Step C: Run Brute Force Uninstaller

Please follow the instructions in this link to remove the Alcan Worm from your computer :

Geekstogo.com instructions for removing Alcan worm

After rebooting your PC, you should be completely free of the cproc.exe error, as well as the Alcan worm.
