I ran avast at start up on a 4 yr old laptop. (Operating System windows XP home) I set the program to delete infected files. Over 4000 files were deleted. After this procedure, I am unable to logon using administrator and the username and password. I get an error message that says "unable to log you on because of an account restriction" if I try admin and when I try WP the system automatically loggs out..
I have the same problem in safe mode.

Did you have it set to delete the files? or quarentine them?

are you able to log on at all? using any account?

if so, use the disk check to automatically repair windows files, if not, i'm sure theres an command prompt way of doing it which another member can help you with.

(disk check:
Click start
click 'my computer'
right-click 'C:'
choose 'Properties'
choose 'tools' tab
choose 'error checking'
2 options are available, "automatically fix file system errors" and "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". check both of these boxes, and click "start"
Reboot the computer
Allow 3-4 hours for stages 4 and 5 to complete. DO NOT FORCE REBOOT!)

Perhaps you could do a System Restore to before this happened (if you can get back on).
