My five year old laptop is running slower and slower dispite regular house-keeping (disc clean-ups, hard drive error checking and defragmentation) and the use of antivirus software.

Is this due to deterioration of the hardware - or is it the software? Please explain what happens.

My laptop is a Toshiba A10 running Windows XP Professional

If what is mentioned above is a definitive list, Well done, you probably do 90% more than most computer owners Laughing

My first port of call for yourself would be to download and run CCleaner.

Over the years your computer picks up many files it no longer requires, and has many install files and registry entrys that are no longer needed. CCleaner will clear many of these 'junk' files and entry's for you.

---->CCleaner direct download (filehippo.com)

you could also try the steps in this article:

for further advice, or if these steps dont seen to help, post back. Wink

CCleaner identified and removed 100's of useless - I hope! - files amounting to 1/2 Gb. Laptop is running better but still slow. I will try the
Help2go article next.

thanks

How much free space do you have left on the hard drive? Once a drive gets over 80 % full, it slows down because it needs to look for space. Charlie
