The first and most obvious question is- Did you overclock your computer? If you did, you have put settings in place that the computer can't handle. If that is the case, just go back and undo what you did. Overclocking is usually done in the computer BIOS. If you didn't overclock it, did you install new software or hardware just before having the problem? A system restore might take care of that.
A word about overclocking. It is basically like hot-rodding your car. It can be made to go faster, but it will put added strain on something and could lead to a potential problem. If you must overclock, I would not go more than 5% faster unless you really know what you are doing.
