delay write failed

Hi Guys..hope you can help...i,ve got a toshiba p330..running xp,with a maxtor external...was importing wav file into cubase from hard drive when the pop up delay write failed...have now lost the entire maxtors contents.....is there a way to recover the files ...thanks for any help...cheers
