I have a fast 3.06 computer 1 gig ram.
Computer sluggish especially moving between menus. Highlighting multiple files slow. My print screen no longer pastes to Photoshop. If multiple programs open video irratic. Transparent areas in windows or information missing. I've replaced video card 2 times. replaced key board and mouse.
Sometimes cannot exit xp even with cntrl alt delete. Difficulty moving between programs.
I've run many anti spyware programs as suggested. Still problems.
I've been helped before in this forum a couple of years ago and now I need more help. I did donate $50 to this cause before and will again if a remedy is found.
Thanks for your kind help.

Hello jerrybenson
There is not much showing in your log. We will do some cleanup and see if your problems still persists.
--------------
Please disable Spywareguard, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.- Right click the running icon of Spywareguard located in the system tray
- Go to Menu > File > Exit and confirm the programs close.
---------------
Go to Start >> Run, and type
sc stop Abiarpcqraf click OK
Go to Start >> Run, and type
sc delete Abiarpcqraf click OK
---------------
A question about this entry:
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.mcafee.com
Did you enter http://*.mcafee.com into your trusted zone? Are you even using Mcafee on this computer?
---------------
Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries (If they still exist, make sure you do not miss any)
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
O19 - User stylesheet: (file missing)
Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.
----------------
Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
- Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6 and save it to your desktop.
- Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6. The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."
- Click the "Download" button to the right.
- Select the Windows platform from the dropdown menu.
- Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement". Click on Continue. The page will refresh.
- Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
- Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
- Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
- Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
- Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
- Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
- Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
- Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
- After the install is complete, go into the Control Panel (using Classic View) and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup)
- On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
- Next, click on the Delete Files button
- There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked
Applications and Applets
Trace and Log Files - Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE. - Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window
- Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.
--------------------
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
- Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
- If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
- Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
- The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
- When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
- Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
- When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
- The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
- Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
-------------
reboot your computer

Hi Clark,
I wasn't able to install the new Java 6. Followed your instruction very closely and the java icon does NOT show in Control panel.
I removed program and installed Java again with the same results.
I ran the malware program you suggested with one finding which it removed. Heuristics.reserve.word.exploit
I think most of my problems are with Photoshop CS2. That is where I see the slow menus coming up and printscreen does no longer work. It works in Microsoft word but not photoshop.
I'm unable to remove and reinstall photoshop because the add remove program icon for the CS2 Suite gives an error message unable to remove suite.
Untill I am able to remove and reinstall Photoshop and see how my system performs I'll probably wait before any more postings.
I would however, appreciate if you see any spyware related issues you see on the logs. Thank you very much.

- Click the "Save List" button
- save the uninstall_list.txt file to your desktop
- post the text file in your next reply
----------------
Establish an internet connection with Internet Explorer and go here and do the BitDefender online virus scan.
- Click "I Agree" to agree to the EULA.
- Allow the ActiveX control to install when prompted.
- Leave the scanning options at default and press "Click here to scan" to begin the scan.
- Please refrain from using the computer until the scan is finished.
- When the scan is finished, click on "Click here to export the scan results"
- Save the report to your desktop then come back here and post it in your next reply.

Hi Clark,
Besides the "Add/Remove" programs that didn't work on Photoshop Suite, I found that the original Photoshop Suite disk has an uninstall. I did this then reinstalled but yet with similar problems.
I ran your suggested "BitDefender" program after making room for it. It required over 100 megs on C drive even if you told it to install on D drive.
At any rate the program found no problems.
I am convinced now after a half dozen spyware and anti virus programs that my system is basically clean.
I notice the problem mostly in photoshop but have seen hints of it in other places. If I try to make a shortcut from the start then programs by dragging on the program with the control key held down, the mouse is difficult to control and moves slowly. I have a new keyboard and mouse along with my third video card. Can't paste from clipboard in photoshop still. I think there is a memory problem of some kind. I checked the hard drive with Maxtor's program and all is O.K. If I move around in Photoshop rather quickly, all the open windows, layers etc. go white on the colored area top of window. This lasts 5 seconds then goes away.
I realize my problems are probably not in the Spyware area and will post in the computer area soon.
Thanks to all for your helpful suggestions.

Your logs are clean. I was seeing if anything out of the ordinary appeared in your add/remove programs or Bitdefender.
Read this link for ways to help keep your computer protected: http://www.help2go.com/article152.html
In my experience it has helped to re-install a program over the existing program when the un-install continually errors out.
If that does not work then definitely start a new thread over at the Computer Help Forum. _________________ Proud Member of ASAP

I said your problems were familiar. I've experienced exactly as you describe. I needed to do 2 things, as follows...
1. If you haven't already, read the thread I mentioned earlier and reset your permissions.
In Photoshop CS2, you need to reset your Preferences file as follows:
2. Hold down Alt, Ctrl, and Shift keys while starting Photoshop. A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to delete the preferences file. Say YES and go from there. Restart Photoshop.
WARNING: resetting/deleting your preferences file will mean that , for example, palette layouts and history states will be reset to default values, so you'll need to go in and change them back to how you like them. Just click on EDIT, Preferences.
Hope that helps. |
