Spyware Forum

It seems that a lot of questions are being asked about spyware, and mostly iquicksearch.com. Wouldn't it be a good idea to have a forum dedicated to spyware problems? This way there could be a sticky at the top that has all the basic information (such as how to download programs and telling people to post their logs) needed before posting.

There are several articles under the Articles & Tutorials on this very subject. That is the area where any member can contribute. If you have expertise in a particular area please submit an article or tutorial. Smile

There are many interesting and informative articles in the menu left of the Help2Go page. I have to say though, that when I came to the site initially, I didn't really get drawn to them.

More what happened was that I noticed a thread I had something to say about and dived straight in with a comment. It's only after being here a while that I'm starting to explore the left-hand menu. I wonder if that's the case with other new members?

Apart from the usefulness of the entire site I also think it is pleasing to the eye, which makes a difference to me. I wonder though, if the menu might benefit from being made more prominent in order to draw attention to it better. Perhaps bold text or a java applet maybe?

Ah well, you've got me there a little Smile

. I know what a java applet menu does and looks like but theory is a bit sketchy. It's like a stand-alone small application (hence the name: application-let, meaning small application) that you can put in web pages. It can take the form of scrolling banners image effects and some smart looking menus. They come with a file with the extension of .class and also have lots of user adjustable parameters such as: speed of writing, widths and heights etc.

It comes as a zip file. When unzipped, the .class file goes into the directory where the HTML pages are stored. The user definable parameters for adjusting the applet's behaviour take the form of text. This gets copied and pasted into the code of the individual web page that the applet is to appear in.

Go to where is says applet downloads in the left-hand menu and choose the 'by Category' sub-heading and look at 'Navigation'.

Thank you for pointing this out -- I will try to make the article and tutorial links stand out more as I refine the site.

As for the Spyware forum, I'm loathe to create new technical forums, as I've seen some other PC Help forums where the questions are too spread out, and you're forced to check each one, which gets annoying. Having a single forum for help keeps things simple for the inexperienced users which tend to visit.

As whoozhe said, we develop tutorials for those topics which keep coming up. I don't know much about hijackthis, but I will learn it if need be in order to create a tutorial, unless one of our hijack experts volunteers to write it.

Hi Guys

With regards to a spyware forum.....I have to agree with osc, some tech sites have a security forum, anti-virus forum, internet forum, even a hijackthis forum

Imagine a poster with spyware related problem.....he's totally lost as to where to post...maybe he'll just put it in the forum relating to his o/s.

Maybe at some time in the future it may become viable to have two forums - one for general computer problems - one for security (which would include spyware and hijackthis logs).

I'm sure osc will consider this, when and if he feels it may be an asset to the site.

As for a tutorial on hijackthis.........several have been written recently.

One of these is by merijn (the author of hijackthis)

i found this site very good i have learned quite a bit about the basics in computing like copy and paste also the list of freeware is good.I got some good advice on hijack and cwshedder which found i had 10 faults on my computer. so once again thank you and keep it simple thAT WAY I CAN LEARN A LOT MORE
