I'd like to re-open the idea of locking posts that are "finished" according to the user or according to steam.
For me personally, I know it helps me out a lot when I can look down the list of topics and know which ones have not been answered. Plus, it would prevent the piggy-backing of other people on previously answered posts, which is a pet-peeve of mine, too. _________________ Oscar Sodani

Totally agree osc. If we can get our members in the habit of making a statement as Steam did in the past it would sure help. Am reluctant to lock down as some posts leave you hanging the way they're worded. Even a simple END OF POST would help.
OSC, if you wouldn't mind taking a look at this hack for phpbb I think it may suit your purpose. It doesn't lock the post but it gives it a different title. It's called Quick Title Edition Mod...what it does is setup a selection box near the "Jump Box" of the forum that has text that the admin defines to change the post title to. In my forums I have stuff like
MOVED
SOLVED
EDITED
DELETED
You can setup permissions on the words (i.e. only admins/mods can change the subject to SOLVED %original subject% ) If you'd like to take a look at an example take a look at my forums...
The original topic subject was "Acronym Mod" then near the bottom you are able to change the topic subject to SOLVED %original subject% and that is available for registered users and anonymos posters.
Here's a description of the mod..
## MOD Description: enable the admin to create tags (for instance [SOLVED]) which
## can be added to the title of a topic only by pushing a
## button. This operation can be performed either by an admin,
## a moderator, or the topic poster.
