OSC, thanks a million for this find!

What a great little program. Have already used it to set up a pseudo LAN for games that just would not work using direct IP and it may just solve a rather annoying VPN problem we have at the place where I work.

The great thing is that it is so simple to use.

Funny thing though....me and some friends that tried it couldn't ping each other yet it still worked.

Yeah, it's still in beta, so there are definitely some growing pains. I suggest keeping up with the latest versions released here:
http://forums.hamachi.cc/viewforum.php?f=14

Sometimes a specific router won't allow you to connect, but usually it works like a charm!

I'm looking for something similar to this to help my brother out with his pc.
He's handicapped pretty much homebound and lives about 35 miles from me.
Lately, I've been running out there every other weekend to "Fix" something. I'd like to just pop in and visit sometime, not get called out to fix something, Know what I mean?
Anyways, he has a very difficult time understanding things when I ask him if his computer is doing this or that, or can you find this and run it or whatever.
Will this program directly connect us so I can run stuff from my house on his pc and determine what problems he might be having and do some tweaking if need be in stead of doing a 70 mile trip in my 12 mpg truck?

Thanks, Jeff

It would probably be useful to use Hamachi and VNC in combination with each other. Hamachi will not let you control your brothers PC as such, but it will allow you to access his files, folders, drives and even peripherals easily. It will also allow you to do things like transfer files between your computer and his.

VNC will actually allow you to see your brothers screen and control his computer with your mouse & keyboard.

There was a topic in this very forum a few weeks ago that would suggest UltraVNC is the version to go for as apparently it is very easy to use and configure http://www.ultravnc.com/

You will just need to make sure that both of these programs start up when your brother switches his computer on, I think both have settings which allow this. If not you can just drag the shortcuts or exe files to his startup folder and select place shortcut here (use right click).

I understand that the Hamachi would need to be configured on both systems but, would my brother need the ultravnc installed on his sytem as well?
From what I gather on thier site, It doesn't look like it or am I mistaken?
If not, this Ultravnc may be the ticket.
Because his knoweldge is very, very limited and his patience is even less than that when it comes to installing and configuring stuff.

Thanks guys, Jeff

Jeff,

I've been working on this article for awhile, but your question prompted me to finally finish it:

Let me know if you have any questions...

Himachi download link dead, also it's spelled hamachi instead of himachi.
Correct link for hamachi- https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/list.asp

Hi wox:

Where are you seeing a spelling error?

Yes, It is very hard to keep links- references up to date.

Logmein is great. Best piece of remote operation software I have ever used. Especially like that you only need to install software on the target machine, that can then be accessed from a web browser anywhere.

The version I use doesn't even need to "install" software per se. You send a link to an activex or mozilla firefox plug-in directly to email and wham. You're in like flint. I love LogMeIn and all their sweet cuddly joy.
