What error are you getting ?

Appears that you have both McAfee and AVG. You can't have 2 anti virus programs running. Need to decide on which one to remove, and remove the other one.

Go to your start button>Control Panel>Add/remove programs delete:

ipwins

Disconnect from the internet close all browser windows, including this one.
Check the following the files to have HJT fix:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IpWins] C:\Program Files\ipwins\ipwins.exe

O16 - DPF: {2D2BEE6E-3C9A-4D58-B9EC-458EDB28D0F6} - http://drivecleaner.com/.freeware/installdrivecleanerst art.cab

O20 - Winlogon Notify: icfapi - icfapi.dll (file missing)

Press the fixed check button, close the HJT program

Re boot the PC find and delete the following if found:

C:\Program Files\ipwins ... delete the folder

Post another log.

Did this fix the pop up ? If not what does the pop up say ?

BG

HI

No Biggie, but fix this with hijackthis as well :-

O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} (cpbrkpie Control) - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/4056/ftp.coupons.com/ r3302/Coupons.cab

This :-

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IpWins] C:\Program Files\ipwins\ipwins.exe

is associated with the Alcan worm, so if you still have the problem we'll get you to run a couple more programs...

ok internet explorer is still giving me problems. i got rid of the hijackthis files. ipwins was not in my add/remove programs or in the program files folder. the message from ie is "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and then it has the typical "send error report" message on the bottom of the box. here is my new hijackthis file.

HI

You cannot be getting the error message everytime you open IE because it was running when you made your hijackthis log

Next time you get the error message... click the "details" button, & post everything you see there ...

I had very similar experience with IE7. I uninstalled it but downloaded it again from the microsoft website and not from a third party. I changed tool bars (add-ons) too. A case of compatibilty may have arisen.

Confused

it seems that the error occurs if i let my homepage www.comcast.net fully load. however, if i hit the red x button to prevent it from loading completely then i am able to use internet explorer without the error message popping up.

So you can either let it load & get the error & post the info in the details button ... or use the work-around you have found.

ok, if there was a details button in the error box then i would have posted it. there is not one. just "send error report" or "don't send". any other suggestions? and the error message is popping up at other times too besides the homepage loading.

Look again...

It should be just above the "send error report" or "don't send".

HI

Your error details say AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ... you have the IE6 iexplore.exe running

Your first hijackthis log :-

MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) IE6 is running ...

Your second hijackthis log :-

MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.5730.0011) IE7 is running ...

Your most recent error :-

Your error details say AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ... you have the IE6 iexplore.exe running

You have a bad install of IE7, windows doesn't know whether it's IE6 or IE7 ...

You will have to uninstall IE7 from add\remove programs, this will roll it back to IE6 ...

Then you can either stick with IE6 or re-download and install IE7 again.
