In my case, it most certainly was.

For at least a year now, I've had to put up with a myriad of problems which, individually, were little more than nuisances rather than major problems. Things like XP themes not appearing correctly, XP default sounds coming and going or changing completely. The most annoying was undoubtedly being told that I needed Flash player installed on certain websites, but not on others. That was very frustrating. All of that, whilst annoying, became the norm and I learned to live with it.

The most recent problem, and probably the worst, was not being able to uninstall certain programs because Windows Installer wasn't present. Downloading the distributable version and attempting to reinstall it just ended up with error messages telling me that it was impossible to install and access was denied. As I was trying to uninstall an antivirus program to install another, it suddenly got serious. In frustration, I attempted to force delete the AV program in safe mode and clean out the registry. Not a good idea!! I couldn't restart the computer! I had to use the backup external HD to recover the computer to the previous days settings.

I then spent literally hours searching the internet with various search strings for an answer...and finally I found it. It took 2 minutes and cured virtually every problem I've had to put up with. No, not a miracle program, just a simple command string. And where did I find it? Microsoft Support Knowledge Base!!

Mind you it wasn't easy to find, and I'm amazed that such a powerful yet simple solution to so many problems was so difficult to search out. Anyway, enough waffling, if you have problems - even if you don't, this reset won't do any harm and could help.

Good luck guys.
