Lenovo or Toshiba?

Hi everyone, I haven't been around for quite a while although I've checked in from time to time to have a quick look - nice to see so many "old" faces still around (if you're reading this Galena1, I wasn't referring specifically to you - I meant "old in the sense of familiar Razz

!)

So, my trusty old computer (old in this case means totally clapped out) is about to bite the dust and die once and for all. It's had a few noisy attempts recently but I've managed to resurrect it but the end is surely nigh ...

Anyway, I've decided to replace it with a laptop for space saving and decided to go with XP (I'm still on 98SE Embarassed

) after all the negative comments about Vista. I've shortlisted two laptops that look pretty good for my sort of light to medium usage (unless you know better ..!) and I'd really appreciate some opinions, not only about the specs or build but also regarding after-sales customer service, etc :

1. Lenovo 3000 N200; Core2Duo T5450 1.6; 1 gig RAM; 120 gig HDD; 15.4" screen. The best price I've found for this is £390 incl. VAT and delivery.

2. Toshiba Satellite A200 1X2; Dula Core T2330 1.6; 1 gig RAM; 80 gig HDD; 15.4" screen. The best price I've found for this one is £439 incl. VAT and delivery.

What do you think? I've found some rather confusing reviews - pros and cons to both but I've been unable to work out which is the best overall. I do touch type very fast so a good keyboard is a must, although an external keyboard would be OK. I don't intend to move the laptop around at all so weight is not really an issue.

Hi Steph, good to see you too. Our personal experience has been with HP and Toshiba laptops. HP we had problems with service wise and obviously hardware wise too. We've had the Toshiba for about a year now and (touch wood) have had no problems, not even with Vista which it came with.

Lenovo (which used to be IBM) I really haven't heard anything about. See what our members can add.

So ... that's one for the Toshiba then - do I hear anyone for the Lenovo?!
Anyone with experience of the UK customer service for either company?
(Someone suggested Dell to me but their customer service isn't that good from what I've heard so although the spec and price were pretty similar to these two, I decided to discount them).

I think both companies make great laptops. You really couldn't go wrong with either machine, in my opinion.

Hmm, in that case, as there doesn't seem to be much between them in terms of quality and spec, maybe I'll just decide on the price.

(It looks as if my shortlist was good then - all that research had to be worth something)!
