Re AVG 7.5 no longer valid after may 31

Hi. I have AVG 7.5 installed. Today a notice popped up that said that AVG 7.5 will no longer be valid after May 31 and after that date one has to upgrade to AVG 8.0 which costs, I think, $30.00 a year. I was satisfied with AVH 7.5 but in the light of the upgrade now costing, is there another program I can switch to that doesn't cost and will give an equal amount of protection? Thanks.

AVG 8.0 free will also include their anti-spyware engine also which is a plus.
