but Im browsing it ..?
i guess if this can happen then there could be a LOT of people browsing at the same time without the system reporting it..
Would affect the usefulness of shouts too..

sorry.
what i meant was: some days ago the screen shows the message "users browsing this forum = none".
Obviously I was browsing , and who knows how many others. i had logged in that day as it happens. just felt i should point this out, it might be a little thing of course.....

if there were 10 users browsing, and each got the message that "users browsing this forum = none", wouldnt that need looking into?

wouldnt it affect the usefulness of the shout feature if you didnt know there was someone browsing to shout across to?

i dont know if this message problem comes often or not, just thought id mention it. cheers to you too, basement guy.

It's a good point -- I'll check into that. Also, on the home page, there's a block that shows which other users are logged in. Not as helpful as it being in the Forum page, I know, but it might be useful to some.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Perhaps I'm way out in left field, but some time ago I questioned the use of shoutouts (I thought it was something like a chat .. if you saw someone logged in, chances are/were that you could instantly contact them .. I was informed that this was not so, and the reason given was that even though someone may be logged in, they quite possably were not even on this site, and could possably be away for some time.) I try to remember to sign out when I go to other sites which gives the membership (if they're at all interested) notice that I'm no longer available. However from the feedback I got, people intimated that although signed in, they are quite possably elsewhere. Bottom line is, what's the point of showing who's on line or not when the information doesn't reflect reality. Now if a method could be figured out for example ... if I were to log in and showed that I was not active on the board (it would have to be able to detect if I was scrolling or looking at other messages .. I don't know if this is possible) but if after a certain period of inactivity I would automatically be logged off. THEN the numbers you refer to would be worthwhile, and then perhaps more interaction could take place knowing that eg osc is on line and I could get a timely response from him no matter which forum .. even shout out if I so chose. Sorry for the long windedness. Smile

This is why: This data is based on users active over the past five minutes

Then what is the point of "who's on Line" .. I see no practical use in it then, also, at times I have been active on the site and my name hasn't shown up on the "users online in the last 5 mins."!

If you are deleting cookies remember to sign back in. I have not had this problem when I am on and its shows that I am on line.

As you can see, I'm signed in, but here is what the info says:

In total there are 10 users online :: 0 Registered, 0 Hidden and 10 Guests [ Administrator ] [ Moderator ]
Most users ever online was 39 on Sat Apr 26, 2003 12:42 pm
Registered Users: None

So as you can see, it's not because I'm not signed in Sad

Well, it is delayed by 5mins, although in admin cp, osc/whooze can change that to however long or short a delay they want. If you don't want it, I think you can turn it off therefore saving valuable server reasources.

I guess I am just lucky as soon as I log on/enter the site I am shown as being online. Now, granted its not the first thing I generally look for, but when do check just like about 2 minutes ago its appears correct.
