I hope all of the Thanksgiving-celebrating folks had a great weekend. I've been put on a diet after this weekends festivities -- TOO MUCH TURKEY.

When I came back today, I thought it was really sweet how everyone wished each other well on the shout-out board. I'm tempted to create a new forum on Help2Go just for conversation. Is there any interest in this? I feel like I know many of you personally, and having a off-topic board just for fun might be a way for this little community to get to know each other even better.

Please post here if you like or dislike the idea. I would probably make it a members-only thing, to further encourage folks to sign-in.

A great idea osc. As long as the basic rules (conduct) apply, I'm all for it! Very Happy

I think it would nice to have a Members Only Room for non PC Help subjects.

Hopefully you will permit members offer to sell/trade/wanted to buy items
to other members. I know I have stuff I no longer need and to lazy to put on ebay, etc. This would be done as private individuals, nothing to do with Help2Go. No Bidding, just a place to advertise what you have- what you want. Everything handled by PM or e mails.

Cheers Smile

I wouldn't want to put any restrictions on what members want to talk about, as long as the courtesy I've seen from everyone here remains intact. You could post whatever you like -- the idea is that we can be a resource to each other in new and different ways, or just get to know each other.

I would assume that there would be at least one moderator in 2 opposite time zones (or more), I'm thinking of a few who try to spoil it all for others and need to be shut down asap. I don't mean to sound negative, as I can see the positives in such a venture, but we've all witnessed a rotten egg or two. Very Happy

I'm from across the water and don't have a Thanksgiving day. The only time turkeys have to watch out is at Christmas! Nonetheless, I'm glad you all had a good week-end.

I'm a newbie here so I hope you won't mind me contributing to this thread. I'm not always a very prolific poster but enjoy reading peoples opinions on various subject and sometimes like to post a reply to comments.

This holds good so long as there is no swearing, everyone treats each other with courtesy and proper capitalized sentences are written instead of abbreviated words.

I've come across quite a few forums where some writers might have good opinions about something and then, a few posts on, someone else comes back with a load of swearing and abreviated writing such as 'i c ur a ******* idiot'.

I guess that can happen anywhere but the worst part is that the Moderators apparently don't mind because the post is allowed to remain. In my opinion that ruins the place and I can't stick around.

Now tell me to go away because I've only got a few posts under my belt! I'll quite understand Smile

mart44 - whether you've posted 3 times or 333 times, new voices are always valued and welcome.

I agree that there should be a committed moderator, although in my experience someone who has taken the time to sign up for an account won't usually act like an idiot. It's the people who hide behind anonymity that upset the apple cart.

Any volunteers for moderator duty?

Why would anyone ask you to leave, you just joined? Everybody that joins is "new", got to start somewhere.

Any and all are welcome to join and participate at what ever amount they desire. There about 3200 members in this site, as you can see not all
3200 post on a regular basis, many just come here to read.

As far as the use of profanity my opinion is that none can be tolerated.
Once you permit a couple of works used, it just gets worse. The moderators will watch for this I'm sure.

Don't think there is a whole lot that can be done about the use of
"Chat room" language, except discourage it. Some people post problem with these abbreviations and can make it very hard to understand for sure what they are talking about. It is to their advantage not to use it if they are trying to explain a problem they are having. Naturally we all make small spelling errors at times, generally not a problem, unless your are telling some one about a registry entry to enter, etc.

Need to remember that some sentences may be incomplete, lacking proper spelling, punctuation, simply because the poster first language may not be english.

Cheers Smile

Hi all,

Osc I think its a great idea to have a board where we can just talk about anything. Thanks for thinking of it! Very Happy

I agree with Basement where its hard to keep the internet lingo down. Really though this is the internet and if someone doesn't understand an acronym etc. I don't see where it would hurt to ask the definition Smile

If you are going to have a moderator then you will have to set a list of rules for it. I wouldn't mind volunteering at all. Basically I don't really see where it would be needed but yes it would be handy to have someone at hand to lock/delete threads with bad content.

If you are going by time zones I'm gmt -5:00.

Bye for now,
Mich

I think your suggestion is a good idea since I have been in the corner myself and told to write a hundred times "Stick to the sites subject matter" so long as we dont get any truly disgusting jokes like this one "What sits on the sea bed and shivers and shakes. answer "A nervous wreck" no sir! we can do without that type of material Smile Yes let's go for it osc. regards Jim. Hi osc et al,

I too would be interested in moderating, however I guess you'll have to make that decision on logistics (time zones etc) for the good of the whole. I'm GMT -7 btw ("by the way" jim Wink )

OK, all set.

I've renamed the forums -- I hope that doesn't confuse people, but I thought the new names and descriptions would better reflect what they were (a lot of people didn't 'get' Q&A).

Mich and Canuck are the moderators of the new forum, and I have every confidence that they'll keep it a clean place to chat, while not censoring too much.

They're both North Americans, so if anyone from the other side of the world is interested in moderating, please let me know.

Thanks to all for the feedback!
