I'm a bookworm by nature. Just curious -- what books are people reading these days?

I'm currently breezing thru Theodore Rex, an excellent history of Theodore Roosevelt's years as president 100 years ago. I'm also bogged down in Neal Stephenson's Quicksilver, but am considering giving up on it b/c the story just isn't grabbing me (his other books, most notably Cryptonomicon, are excellent).

Currently I am reading Elminster in Myth Drannor, part of the Forgotten Realms series of books.

I'm also waiting for authors to finish/release books: Robin Hobb, George R.R. Martin, Melanie Rawn, Robert Jordan etc.

I'm a huge science Fiction/Fantasy fan but will literally read anything that is put in front of me Very Happy

oh and so far I haven't read anything else mentioned. I've been meaning to get to the Cryptonomicon books but haven't quite made it there so far.

Dylan Thomas, thats poetry isn't it?

Hi All - Got several books on the go at the moment. A monstrous tome about Ancient Egypt. Lots of new info I've not read before. A really bizarre book by Oliver Sacks, a New York Professor of Neurology. It is a book of case-studies that shows just what a complex thing the human brain is and the odd experiences that some unfortunate people have when there is a 'short-circuit'. 'A Clockwork Orange' by Anthony Burgess.
Whilst I was away I read 'Weak At The Top', a sort of chauvinistic 'Bridget Jones Diary', very funny.
The Boss is a reader big-time. Most of it too heavy going for me, although I have tried. She did her degree, at the local uni, as a mature student. Her chosen subjects were English Literature combined with Mediaeval Studies(a real laugh a minute Wink

I'm on the recycle kick and re-reading some books that have been gathering dust for many years. Currently rummaging through Stephen Donaldson's "Thomas Covenant Chronicles".

Nice Whoozhe! Thomas Covenant is a great series! He's a total anti-hero. I haven't read that series in ages but its definately one of my favorites. Very Happy

If you're into fantasy fiction I would recommend Michael Moorcock. I've read just about everything he wrote many years ago.There was another collection I read back then as well,by another author, but I just cannot remember his name. Crying or Very sad

I did try to track themdown a few years ago but they were out of print. If I recall correctly most of the titles were 'alliterated'(that's a word from the Boss). It means that words in the title began with the same letter eg 'The Wolf and the Walrus' or 'The Dragon and the Dinosaur'. No help on Google with this, I'll have to try a few other engines. Regards. I tried one Moorcock book, Gloriana. I hated it Confused

Have you read that one? Any idea if all his writing is the same? Also its hard to get his books here (or maybe that was just Gloriana). I got it from a person on the internet. There's a really cool site called Bookcrossing.com if any other bookworms are interested. Like a great big international library Wink

As for the other author, Piers Anthony ring a bell? Check part way down the page, the Xanth Series: http://www.hipiers.com/bibliography.html

Pier Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality are also an excellent read.

Another of my favorites is the Ducton Wood series by William Horwood.
It is one series that after reading I truly miss some of the characters. Like many who have read the books, Mayweed was my favorite.

My girlfriend got a book for christmas called The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, unfortunately for her it became my Christmas present Smile

My whole family has read Da Vinci Code -- but is hasn't trickled down to me yet. They all loved it, though. My mother in law said it reminded her of one of my favorites, Foucault's Pendulum, so that alone has got me hankering to pick it up when my father in law is done with it.

Hi Mich - Not read Gloriana, never even heard of it. If it's fantasy stuff then I think he needs to work harder on his title Exclamation

All the other Moorcock stuff I read was fantasy fiction and, I thought, exceptional. Regards - Bob

OSC, I LOVE IT so far....I used to be a pagan practicioner and have even dabbled in the Unholy Bible, I just love reading about other religions and stuff and this book describes basically show's how even the Last Supper has pagan meaning in it since Da Vinci himself pracited some of the "dark arts"
