OK, first off let's get anti-virus software out of the way. |

I had a few problems loading Norton System Works and Personall Firewall when I first moved up to XP but I wasn't going for the FULL install. I gave AVG a try but just couldn't get along with it. To be fair this is probably more to do with my own computer savvy than anything else because much better qualified than I rate it very highly. Uninstalled AVG and went for the FULL Norton install and everything sems to be OK now. I never had any problems when running Norton stuff with 98se. Regards.
EDIT: Am I being particularly dense here? I don't seem to be able to vote in this poll _________________ I know everything about nothing, nothing about everything and precious little about the bit in between.

I use eTrust EZ Anti-virus by Computer Associates. It used to be free when it was called InoculateIT. Development was discontinued on that in June 2001. I'd been using InoculateIT free for so long I stuck with Computer Associates out of loyalty when they brought out EZ Anti-virus and started charging. It costs $9.95 a year for updates, which I'm not too worried about. It works well and, like most programs of its kind, auto-updates virus definitions. |

I would vote in the poll if I could figure how too.
I had Norton for 2 years, first year was free, the 2nd year was $25.00 USD. The only real problem I had was when I was trying to down load something, found my self turning it off to be able to down load.
But we all know that there have been many more bugs in the last year or so. Anti virus programs can't be made until after the bug has been created. No body has a crystal ball.
I have been using the Free AVG for about 16 months now and so far no problems, except for the one I created myself. I opened an e mail that said it was from Microsoft and it was a virus.
No matter what anti virus you are using, its as only good as the user.
The best Anti Virus there is the one that is behind the eyes and between the ears THINK.

Sorry about the poll -- I think it closed itself after a couple of days. Check out the other thread -- I think a straight discussion might be more worthwhile than a million polls anyway... _________________ Oscar Sodani

The closedown of the poll was probably caused by Norton Anti Computer software _________________ Take control of your life. Leave others to control their own. |
