Jim,

I dont use Freeserve but a few ISP's are now doing this type of thing in a bid to combat the menace of spam. They probably have some software in place at their mail servers that identify spam as it comes through. What you can now do is set up rules in your email program. eg: If subject line contains the word "SPAM" then delete at server OR move to spam folder etc. This way you can set up a spam folder and only look through it if you think something got put there by accident (sometimes genuine emails get mistaken for spam by anti-spam software).

I'm with BT Yahoo Broadband and they have recently introduced something that is cutting out spam significantly. Good to see the ISP's taking this problem seriously.

As you say Shinobi, our ISP (cable) is one of the largest in Canada and they have just implemented such a SPAM program. It's optional though, so thought I'd give it a try. In the past three days only 3 SPAM got through, down by at least 99%! If the ISP's want to stay in business, they'd better think hard about including such programs, or they'll lose a lot of business. Suggest if you're looking for a new provider, one of the first questions is if they have Spam protection, if they don't, tell them you'll check out the competition .. that should give them food for thought!!

Also, a little off topic, my ISP Shaw was one of the companies that refused to give RIAA and its Canadian equivalent information on P2P Uploaders/Downloaders as they believed it contravened the Canadian Privacy to Information Act, and I'm sure you've read that the court found in their favour. I think it also had to do with the way the judge interpreted the copyright law and its intent. So here in Canada it is now legal to do such downloads and share.

Jim, thanks very much for the rating. I think your initial question would have been better placed in Q&A though, not sure how many members/visitors visit this forum, and a question such as yours could possibly be of assistance to those who stay in Q&A (I feel sorry for them Wink ). So, I'm sure Shinobi & I accept your rating with great reluctance Wink Wink
