Have you tried right-clicking the icon in 'computer' (what used to be My Computer in XP) and selecting play?

I suspect this will get the same result, but worth a try before trying more complex options.

Does any other media play ok? other CD's, DVD's etc?

Another option may be to open Windows Media Player, then press the [Alt] key once to display the other options along the top of the player, select File then Open then navigate to the drive.

Let me know how you get on...
