About time too! I've nothing against people sharing their own property, but 'sharing' others' work is just theft.

I agree totally! And the way I see it ... I worked hard and earned money to buy and build my music library ... so should everyone else! All free download sites should be shut down in my opinion!

They should take the company's assets and distribute to those who were deprived of the royalties for their music that was downloaded for free.

I too agree, but the recording industry does not come out of this innocent. The last I heard, they owe the artists in the Billions $ which they have retained from years of royalties owed. Especially the tapes/cds that are amalgams of different artists .. eg K-Tel, Life etc. They put these together to keep the copyrites active, even the not so well known artist/songs .. ever wonder why they put filler songs in that you've never heard?

There's got to be an easier way to ensure the artists get their royalties. Here in Canada there is a special tax on all audio equipment, recorders, dvd players, iPod etc as well as cds, cassettes etc. This tax is distributed to the artists, not the recording companies.
