    Default Railroad Construction

    This is amazing ...

Wonder what the men that first worked on the railroad, would think.

That is amazing, and one of many reasons why there are not enough jobs to go around for man or woman. Machines do it for them!

Wonder what the men that first worked on the railroad, would think.
They'd think, "They pay you how much per hour to do what we did without those machines!?!?!?! Oh, my back!"

Two men were watching a construction site where a digger was preparing the foundations. "Just think", said the first man, "if it wasn't for that damned machine 12 men with shovels could do the work". "And if it wasn't for those damned 12 men with shovels, 100 men with teaspoons could be employed" said the second man. We cannot hold back time. Why should mankind be condemned to mind numbing, back breaking labour when he can invent machines to free him to reach his true potential.

    Meaning!?!?!

Brought this verse to mind: Zagers/Evans In the year 2525

    In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your legs got not nothing to do
Some machine is doing that for you

Gives new meaning to, "What goes around, comes around!"

Man does not exist for work alone surely? Freedom from drudgery is freedom to dream. Freedom to dream gives freedom to create. How many creations were conceived at the coal face?

Probably quite a few .. from taking birds down in cages to detect gas to the modern gas detectors. Safety advancements, boring tools etc. etc.

Point taken Canuck but not entrely true. Most inventions (either to protect man or to make life easier) were conceived by people who had time to consider problems and advance solutions. James Watt, Humphrey Davies, Brunel and many others needed time to develop their ideas. Had they needed to graft for up to 14 hours per day they would have had little time to think, which reinforces my point that it is not work but creativity which frees us.
