Default Graphics card upgrade for laptops

Forgive my ignorance, but i was under the assumption that you could not upgrade the graphics on a laptop, as it was intergrated into the motherboard.

today i see the topic http://www.help2go.com/forum/showthread.php?t=100095 and am a little confused.

all that holds my compaq laptop back at the moment is the graphics card, it being an nvidia based machine.

i have searched ebay before, but to no avail, till i was told you couldnt upgrade the graphics on a laptop....

    have i been missinformed?

It will depend on the laptop. Some will be totally built into the motherboard while others may have options (usually limited). The cards aren't universal like AGP cards, but specific to the brand and model number of the laptop. Charlie

It will be impossible for laptops with shared memory. Laptops with shared memory has embedded graphics card (like most intel gpu's), and thus, they can not be changed.
