    Default ntfs

    how do i recover ntfs file without an original disk. i recently bought a used computer that won't boot into windows 2000 because the ntfs file is corrupt or missing. thanks

    Just to clarify, is this the error you are getting?

    Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys
    If so, you should read this, but you will need to have a Win2000 disk. It's possible that an XP disk will work, but I've never actually tried it.

    As you've bought the machine without any installation media, you should just reformat the hard drive and install a copy of XP. There are lots of good deals at the moment, especially on OEM versions, following the introduction of Vista.

    Even if you can get the machine started in its current state, you will certainly need an installation disk at some time in the future.
