Default \windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt - Win XP

Yesterday morning I powered up my Dell desktop to a black screen with the error message (\windows\system32\config\system) is missing or corrupt - I am running Win XP Pro. I rebooted and using the F8 key to enter safe mode and the other options, and a try at each one still keeps me from going any further.

I tried the suggestions in the tutorial, and every time I try to enter my computer, it still says "\windows\system32\config\system is not available" (or something along those lines) what should I do now?
