Default Adobe Flash Player and IE7 x64

    Hi,

Because I have an x64 os and use IE7 x64, I can't download Adobe Flash Player. The Adobe Flash Player site says:

"To use Flash Player to view Flash content on a 64-bit operating system, you must run a 32-bit browser."

Since it can't be installed on my computer, each time I open a web page, I get the request to download Adobe Flash Player. This happens at least 30 times a day and has become annoying. Is there any way I can stop these messages? Is there a substitute Flash Player that can run on x64?

Just download the 32bit version of IE from here and install the Adobe plugin. 32bit versions of IE work in X64 systems, but not vice versa, as explained here.

I downloaded IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu but it wouldn't install. I received a message that said that "Internet Explorer 7 is not supported on this operating system."

It should though because the requirements include "Windows XP Professional x64 Edition."

This is a strange state of affairs! Windows XP 64bit systems are backwards compatible with 32 bit applications - or at least they were! I downloaded IE7 today and tried to install on a 64 bit work machine. I got the same error message!!

What makes this even stranger, is the fact that Vista 64 comes with both versions of IE7 installed as standard.

You could try downloading the beta version of IE8 to see if that'll install.

Unless anyone else can pitch in with a suggestion, I suggest you approach Microsoft.

Last night, I downloaded IE8-WindowsServer2003-x64-ENU and IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU to see if either one of them work. I'm in the middle of processing files and I won't be able to reboot or I'll lose all the work that's been done so far but I'll be able to do it tomorrow, and I'll let you know how it went.

It might be that I'll have to uninstall IE7-WindowsXP-x64-enu before I install IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.

I just uninstalled IE7-WindowsServer2003-x64-enu, rebooted, and tried to install IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu. I received the message that this version of Internet Explorer is not intended for this machine. I then tried to install IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU but I received the same message. I wound up having to reinstall IE7-WindowsXP-x64-enu. The major problem that I'm having with IE7-WindowsXP-x64-enu is that I constantly receive messages about needing to install Adobe Flash Player but it won't install on computers with an x64 os.

I think that when I did a Windows Repair of Windows about a week ago, I had IE7-x32 installed but without Tabs. I switched to IE7-x64 because I wanted to the Tabs and I didn't know that IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu also includes Tabs until very recently. I do Windows Repairs every few months to get rid of some bugs (not viruses). The next time I do one, I'll try to install IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu and see what happens.

    Angry

I just finished a Repair of Windows to see if I could install IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu but it was a no go. I've done it before so I don't know why it will no longer install it. I uninstalled my current version of Internet Explorer X64 prior to doing the Repair so that it would have no x64 version to fall back on.

In Start > All Programs, Internet Explorer and Internet Explorer X64 were there as soon as it booted up after the Repair. Internet Explorer x64 isn't in Add/Remove Programs.

So I have to either keep the version of Internet Explorer that Windows installed during the Repair and lose Tabs or update to Windows x64 and lose Flash Player.

Prior to installing IE7, I installed Active X and Flash Player and, of course, they worked. Then I installed IE7 x64 and Active X and Flash Player and they still work. That seems to be the key to having Active X, Flash Player and IE7 x64 (on my pc). Maybe it'll help others.

Thanks Denise, glad you managed to sort it out. That's very useful to know.

Just saw a little blip in my previous post that might have people wondering what I meant. I had said, "Then I installed IE7 x64 and Active X and Flash Player and they still work"

What I meant to say was "Then I installed IE7 x64 and Active X and Flash Player still worked." So Active X and Flash Player, then IE7 x64.

I hope this keeps some people from scratching their heads
