Pc crashing during boot and in xp
i would like to thank you all as i have been spared formatting and reinstalling again.... but i need to get my problem sorted out as soon as possible and permanantly.... i have had my pc at the shop i bought it from and after a week end of testing they said there is nothing wrong with my pc.... i am running windows xp professional service pack 3... but i'm not sure when my problems started... before or after service pack 3. i have a GA-k8n-sli mother board from giga-byte and a amd athlon 64 x2 cpu. with 1.5 ddr 400 RAM. i also have 2 gigabyte geforce 7600gs cards running in sli and 2 sata hard drives. what happens is i get a "blue screen of death" randomly in random programs or games. and then the pc reboots, that is when i am in xp. what it also does is some times when i boot up it either does not show my CPU, Or Memory, OR one or none of my hard drives. and also sometimes freezes when i try enter my bios setup. then it will also give me various errors like i don't have a system disk in just before it starts to load xp. i have run chkdsk on my hard drives.... hope someone can help. i have attacked a reoprt of my pc

I would at this point consider uninstalling Service Pack 3 that way we / you may be able to start & narrow it down.
Have you ever been able to read the entire blue screen error, that may also start to point us in some sort of direction you may want to (disable auto restart on system failure).
It's possible others may see something in the information you provided thanks for doing that...
What other operating system is on the computer if there is one?

there is only windows xp professional... i noticed in the report that i was 3% overclocked on my fsb...(running at 205 instead if 200) but when i checked the report again it was 192.... when i checked in bios it was 200 and all the other settings were either on normal or auto... i'll disable the auto restart on system error... i do that in bios right? thanks for the fast reply... at the moment my pc seems to be running ok. after i used one of the tutorials about the corrupt sustem file on boot up.

Maybe it's ok - I can't address the overclocking issue if there is one don't know enough about it.
Here are instructions for Disabling Auto restart so if it Blue Screens again you can read the error and get some sort of idea - blue screens can be difficult to diagnose usually a prescribed set of exercises are done, that is Memtest, Hard drive test from the manufactures' site and all the drivers should be current, You could actually run those tests now... Google Memtest....
1. Right-Click on "My Computer", and click "Properties" from the context menu that appears.
2. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
3. Click on "Settings" under "Startup and Recovery"
4. Uncheck the box labeled "Automatic Restart".
Now if a blue Screen Error occurs you will be able to view it, I always google it first to get more information, we also have a tutorial on Blue Screen Errors here at the forum...

i uninstalled service pack 3
after my pc froze with a error message saying "hard error" or something like that... after i unistalled it ran ok for a little while and then while i was playing red alert 3 i got the dreaded blue screen... the message was" KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR" and the technical was 0xoooooo7A(oxco4o2B80,oxcoooo185,ox80570FE6,ox3958F860)... after jotting it down i had to reboot my pc 3 to 4 times to actually get passed the boot screen and into windows, it stopped picking up my hard drive and then said it was not a system disk.???? not even bios picked it up and also froze. then after leaving it off i tried again and it worked. is it time for a new pc? if so AMD or intel? i like running sli but is crossfire better? sorry i'm getting close to throwing this machine out the door

Bug Check 0x7A: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
See the link above for additional information on the error as you can see it could be 1 of a many things from a cable connection, memory, mother board.
"AMD or intel? i like running sli but is crossfire better" - Sorry I will not be able to address these questions. I would guess to say sli and crossfire both have disadvantages and advantages but I do not know enough.
The other question is the machine only failing during the game play?
Others may have more information for you.
