    Beetoad...

Looks like you are running Anonymizer...exit Anon out of the system tray and your IE8 (and Firefox) should work. All my stuff was running fine until I upgraded to Vista(64)/IE8 then problems began. There appears to be compatibility issues with Anon and Vista(64). I've been on Anon's website trying to work the problem.

    Default Do you have XP?

I had a problem with IE8. Based on the advice I got here, (I'm sorry I don't remember from who and apparently the post is out of the first two pages) I just removed IE8 and (to my surprise) IE7 was there and workable. Firefox and yahoo etc. started working properly after a while also. I don't think that IE8 is a good thing for XP. Not having Vista I can't speak for how good it is there. Microsoft is complaining at me for hiding IE8 download, they seem to think that it is a good thing. OOPs I went back and reread your post and realized that you have Vista. Still, (if you haven't tried to remove IE8 yet) it would be worth a try.

I have tried running both browsers in safe mode, and got the same results... Next I closed out my "Anonymizer" program and again saw the same results (again trying both in safe mode).

It's a very odd anomaly; I must admit, I'm stumped.

I'm considering reverting back to IE 7 (by removing IE8), but can't see how this could positively affect FireFox (unless possibly a shared DLL file has somehow become corrupted)...?

Ok. I have just reverted back to IE7, and voila, problem solved; at least partially solved.

IE7 now runs just fine, however FireFox still can be run only as administrator. That indicates to me that something is still amiss, but for now I'll just use IE7 and retire FireFox.

Thanx to all for the help!
