Default Prefetch???

Has Prefetch somehow been removed from XP?
Years ago I cleaned out my folder and then let it grow back. Sometimes
I would go into the folder and remove individual entries for things that I didn't
access often. A few days ago, I got to wondering if anything was there now that I
didn't need or want there. I couldn't find the folder. I made a folder in windows and checked
it and it still has no entries. I know of nothing that I did to disable the process and I never deleted the folder (on purpose at least) I just wondered if anyone know if it is still an XP function.

It still is on my XP SP3 machine, located at C: > Windows > Prefetch.
