    Default Wifes Inspirion 4100

My wife has an Inspirion 4100 and the hard drive has failed. What would be the best hard drive to get for around $70.00. The old hard drive reads
    Model # MHR2020AT
    Id# HTIN
    Part# CA06062-B2400DL
    Ser# NJ16T2515YUS
    Date 2002-05

    I believe its a 20G

Please be kind with advising on which would be the best one to get as i work on cars and not computers, but I would like to change that.

Also do they make cheap batteries? She got the lap top for free and buying a new one is not an option.

    Harddrive:

The good thing about Harddrives is there are only 4 basic types: IDE SATA 3.5 and 2.5

You can get an IDE (or PATA) in 3.5 or 2.5
You can get a SATA in 3.5 or 2.5

your looking for an IDE (also known as PATA) in the 2.5 inch size.

Personally i buy from EBAY or EBuyer

Make sure you are not bidding on/buying a hard drive CASE, as this will not contain an actual harddrive!

When it comes, check your existing drive, as usually laptop harddrives have a thin casing specific to the laptop brand that is not supplied. This usually attaches using 4 small screws, 2 each side.

Sometimes there is also a conversion bar across the terminals, which can be gently removed by prising with a screwdriver, being careful not to break the converter or bend any pins.

As for the Battery, you can buy used ones from the same sort of places. New your looking at at least $70 i would think, but would budget at least $150.
    Always remember you're unique.

    ...Just like everyone else!

Here is a link to service manual:
    Contents: Dell Inspiron 4100
Looks like you need a PATA (IDE) 2.5" notebook drive.

    Something like this:
    Hitachi Travelstar 5K100 80GB UDMA/100 5400RPM 8MB 2.5" IDE Hard Drive Hitachi 13G1584 HTS541080G9AT00

Please double check to be sure it is correct before ordering.
