Try downloading Dial-a-Fix by djlizard, save it to the desktop, then extract it to it's own folder.
- Open the folder and run Dial-a-fix.exe
- 2 windows will open. Close the one in the background labelled Restrictive Policies
- Check the box in section 1, Empty temp folders.
- Check the box in section 2, Fix Windows Installer.
- Check the box in section 3, Fix Windows Update.
- Check the box in section 4, labelled SSL/HTTPS/Cryptography. The 4 boxes under it should already be checked
- Check all boxes in section 5, labelled Registration Center.
- Click Go
- Click OK for any error messages if received, but make a note of the details, or create a screen grab.
Restart the computer when completed.
Depending on your system, the above may take some time to complete.

@anthonyhayde...... please do not jump into someone else's thread. Go here and start a new thread.

@ goodfellow
I think you need to re-register some Windows files. Go to this link and read through the instructions. Then follow Method 1 under Resolution. If that fails, go to Method 2 and download the latest version of Windows Update Agent.

If you are still in trouble with your Updates, maybe try this tutorial. Please begin at Method 2
Let us know if it helps at all,
kind regards,
