Default Sonic record now and blue screen of death

Everytime I try to use my sonic burner to record some data, etc. I get the blue screen saying there has been an error. I always have to reboot the computer. It only does this when using the sonic program to burn. Everytime I try to close sonic I get three pop up boxes with mediahub.exe application errors. Sonic came preinstalled on my Dell with windows xp home edition, so I can't remove and reinstall it.

I was hoping someone might have some suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Hi shirlhow

From what I can see or find.
There are a few reasons this may be happening:

• Your Dell copy of Sonic Digital Media is incompatible with Windows Media Player 11.
• You need to reregister an xml.dll file
• Windows Media Player 11 is having compatibility issues.

C++ Runtime error citing "mediahub.exe"

If Zep's suggestion doesn't work for you, here are my views on the subject.
Sonic (alias Roxio) has had problems integrating with some MS and other programs. This goes back quite a few years and my experience with them was far from helpful. I really don't know why MS has chosen them for their default copy program (probably $$$). Here are the instructions from Sonic on how to remove their product from XP Complete Uninstall of Creator 9 & 10 on Windows XP .

A better way to go is with Nero, their paid version is rated very high, but they also offer Nero Lite for free Nero - Nero 9 Lite ? download . Other programs are CDex (free) , Audacity (free), I'm sure others will have their favourites that they will share.

I have to agree with Canuck. Sonic/Roxio is pile of problems waiting to happen. As far as a free replacement, I'd add CDBurnerXP to that list. Works on Vista and Win7 too!

Thanks guys for all the help, the problem is taken care of. I rolled back Windows Media Player to version 10 and it took care of the problems.
