    Smile Computer Virus Attack

I really appreciate your advice so much.
I m not very computer literate. I have a small business and have only one computer. My computer has gotten very slow the last few weeks. I open attachments from people I do not know because I have to. I am in the staffing industry and get lots of emails that do not say good subject matter.
I know I have virus's because I can delite all temporary files.
I have a HP Pavilion dv 4000, it is 4 years old.
I was told to do the following.
I removed as many temporary files as the computer would allow. I did Start, Run, %temp%, and deleted the temp files. But 6 files that look like word files would not delete, the computer saying they were being used by another person or program, but nothing else was open.

I removed some % temp % and my computer still has 6 files that will not delete
    I did- prefetch also
I downloaded c cleaner at your suggestion too.
I use and have spy bot too.

    Any more suggestions?
Thank you so much for your help.
