Default Use two processors on Intellistation Z ?

I have a IBM Intellistation Z computer set up with one processor as follows:

Operating System Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (build 2600)
    System Model IBM -[62213M8]- 1.0
    System Serial Number: KPMA535
    Enclosure Type: Tower
Processor a Main Circuit Board b
    2.80 gigahertz Intel Xeon
    8 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache Board: IBM MS-9121 1.0
    Serial Number: 38D1FB
    Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
    BIOS: IBM -[OPE125A]- 03/04/2003
    3072 Megabytes Installed Memory

I'm thinking of adding a second processor, would that speed up the system and if I add the processor do I need to update the BIOS ?

Can you supply the exact type number of your Intellistation Z?

    EDIT>> OK, I just spotted it's a 6221.

That model is getting on a bit. It was discontinued in 2005, but the Xeon processors are still available for very little money. A quick search found them on sale for $30 or less. You will probably need to do a BIOS update. The last one was v1.51C released in January 2007, and is available here if you don't already have it.

Adding more RAM would help too, but you are stuck with the 3Gb limit with XP unfortunately.
