Default windows/system32/config/system corrupt

hey guys,

my accer notebook just switched off itself, and when trying to start it again the following problem occurs:

"windows can't be started, following file is missing or corrupt windows/system32/config/system"

(...)

the it goes on with the advice to repair it with the original cd, which wouldn't be a problem in general... but, I'm until march due to buisiness in asia and don't have any system-cd with me.

therefore, I'd like to know if there's any possibility either to download that file or to fix it without the cd.

any help would be really muched appreciated, especially because I would need my laptop for work as well... working in an internet cafés is not that easy here...

thank you very much in advance,
christian

Here is an excellent tutorial from one of our members Help2Go - free computer help and advice - C:\windows\system32\config\system missing or corrupt . I do believe that if the windows cd is needed, you can use someone else's copy.

Have you tried tapping the F8 key @ boot and selecting:
Last Known Good Configuration:
This option starts Windows by using the previous good configuration.

It has a 50-50 chance of booting normally again
