Default Computer won't go to sign in screen

Hi, my computer just began to screw up. When you start the computer up it goes to (Windows xp)

    1. Black background with Microsoft logo

    2. Blue screen with small Microsoft logo

    3. Should be the log in page for all the usernames that use the computer.

The only problem is it never makes it to the log in page, it stays on number 2.

Any ideas on how to fix this? thank you

    I have a dell laptop

Are you able to boot up in Safe Mode? If so, in Safe Mode do a System Restore to before this happened. Stay tuned for other's input.

Have you installed new hardware recently? If so, remove it, replace what was there (if it works) and see if it will boot up. If the answer is no, your best bet would be to do an XP repair, see How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install for instructions.

Thanks it worked. However, with one problem fixed another just enter the building. I signed into my name and immeaditly got a

begining of dump of physical memory

    stop c000021a

    0xc0000005

I did some research online and it said if you can get in using safe mode it's defintly a driver issue. Yes, I can get into safe mode and go to my screen. Do you think that's the issue? What to do from here. Any help would be awesome. Thanks

I take it the repair completed successfully?

If so, that particular error code could refer to many things.

If you can still get into safe mode, and have a Windows XP disk to hand, i'd recommend the following:

open a RUN box (either by clicking start, then Run... or by holding the Windows key and tapping R once) and type in:

    sfc /scannow

    (Thats [s][f][c][space][/][s][c][a][n][n][o][w][Enter])

Follow the prompts, and get back to us if it persists.
    Always remember you're unique.

    ...Just like everyone else!
If your problem is solved, here's how to say thanks!

    Windows XP
    Windows Vista
    Windows 7

A black box appeared for half a second and then disappeared. What do you think. Thanks

Now I try to do this in admin and it says your windows xp is not genuine. The only problem is its the same exact disk that came with the computer. It still wont let me do the scan but I can get on the internet in safe mode but if I boot without it it takes me to the blue screen. lmk what you think and thanks

It may very well have come with the computer, but was this a new computer, store bought or second hand? If second hand, chances are that it could be a pirated XP. Does the XP CD have the holograph MS logo?
