Default Slow internet connection on XP

I have XP service pack 3 installed on my pc and lately it has become very slow conecting to web pages even the google home page. it seems to sit there for ages saying it's connecting to the page and then suddenly the page will download. I reinstalled the fax componant on the pc and I seem to be having the problem since then. I've tried two seperate registry cleaners but they haven't improved the problem.

We never recommend registry cleaners on this forum. We did an independent test and the results were scary! (See this link: Comparing Registry Cleaners - Blogs - Help2Go Forums )

Some more details will help us pin point the problem:
How do you connect to the internet? Modem? Router? Wireless?
Have you tried cleaning temporary internet files and cookies?
Have you tried an alternative Browser?

If you have any questions about the above, please feel free to ask.

Sorry about question after question, with no reall answers, i'm just trying to get down to the nitty gritty...

Last one before the suggestions come:

    Please try this:

    • Disconnect ALL OTHER devices from the router.
    • Turn off the router for at least 1 minute, completely remove the plug from the socket.
    • Turn it back on, and wait for all the lights to return to normal (normally 2-5 minutes)
    • Re-connect JUST the problem computer to the network

    Still the same?

sorry for the delay in replying. I've tried the suggestion above but it hasn't made a difference to the computer. The other computers (laptops connecting wirelessly) don't have the same delay opening web pages.

think the problem has been resolved. I've uninstalled microsoft TCP/IP version 6 from my pc and web pages are downloading much quicker. Thanks for your responses and efforts to solve the problem.
