Default Javaw.exe error after using a registry cleaner. Please Help!!

Hello. I am brand new to this forum and as the title of my post says...I borked my javaw.exe after using a registry cleaner. I have tried since to fix it with no avail. I used Hijack This to get a log of my system. In the log from HJT, I see a couple of references to java but I'm scared to mess with anything else.

I am using WinXP and this is an older computer. I use ESET security and I'm not sure which registry cleaner may have deleted my java files. I used one that did not create a restore point but other than the java, nothing else is wrong with the computer and it runs a lot faster except for the java issue. I have deleted and re-installed JAVA several times to no avail. The error says Javaw.exe has encountered a problem and must close. The details of the error say something about java.dll (missing I'm assuming)

    Any suggestions/comments/advice/help are GREATLY appreciated.

Hi Minxotic and welcome to Help2Go,
I suggest you download and run JavaRa JavaRa | Download JavaRa software for free at SourceForge.net . This program will get rid of all Java entries and then you should be able to install the latest version. Check all boxes with Remove, that should ensure a Java free PC. Keep us posted.

I followed your instructions and redownloaded Java and removed it all. I still got the same error though. The JavaRa seemed to remove all of the Java program though.

    Anything else I can do?

Thank you so much for getting back to me so fast, it's greatly appreciated.

    Post the hijackthis log.

After you post the log do this exercise below and post it too.

Double click the hijackthis Icon on the Desktop, Scroll down to ‘’Open the Misc Tools section” Click it at the bottom under System tools click “Open Uninstall Manager” over to the right click “Save List” Save it to your Desktop so you may find it, copy and paste it in your next reply..

Hi again. The HJT log and Uninstall are included as attachments. Is that ok?

Oh ok. sorry about that. unless i've done something wrong, JavaRa gave me an error after it was finished removing Java. I'm clueless as to what happened but it was an error similar to the javaw.exe error.

    Minxotic,

When do you get the error? What are you doing when you get it? At boot time? or what.

    What browser? IE , Firefox..

I was trying to start a PS3 media server I have when it routinely crashes. Also trying to start Maplestory causes it to crash. I don't use IE only Firefox but the javaw.exe error only happens when I'm using these programs (so far).

would copying the details of the error help?

    Yes post that.

I suggest you remove this CleanMyPC - Registry Cleaner from the add / remove list. we here at help2go do not recommend them.

Please up date your adobe reader program it's out of date and can be a portal for Malware, see link,

Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions

    Then

Could you run that JavaRA Again. After it runs. Open MyComputer double click "C" Local disk, look for program files folder double click it in there look for any Java folders if found right click and delete them. Don't reinstall Java yet.

    Then

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your Desktop from here ATF-Cleaner.exe - www.atribune.org

Note: Vista users must use Run As Administrator
    • Under Main: Select Files to Delete choose: Select All.
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords click No at the prompt
If you use Opera browser click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords click No at the prompt
    • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
This tool may cause the computer to boot slower don’t worry it will return to normal after a few reboots.

Let us know when that is done.
