Default S.M.A.R.T hard drive detects error....

Everytime my girlfriend starts up her computer, she get this message:
    Quote:
    S.M.A.R.T. hard drive detects error.
Please consider to back up the hard drive.
    Press ESC to continue.
    Unquote.
When pressing ESC, the computer starts up. apparent without any problems.
How to have this "SMART message" removed?
Computer in question is a SONY VGN-CS320J.
    Running VISTA Home premium.
    Any help highly appreciated.
    Best regards, John

In a nutshell, your hard disk is going bad and needs replaced.

My advice is to back up all your personal information such as photo's, documents and other things you cant easily replace, and get the hard disk replaced.

it is just a matter of time before the disk no longer starts at all, and everything may be lost.

It "could" be the ribbon between the hard disk and the mainboard (motherboard) going bad, but i'd back up now anyway just to be sure you don't lose anything. failure really is imminent
    Always remember you're unique.

    ...Just like everyone else!
If your problem is solved, here's how to say thanks!

    Windows XP
    Windows Vista
    Windows 7
