Router setup issue
I have a Linksys WRT54G Ver 6.0 router. Running XP Pro Ver. 2002 Service Pack 3, Intel Pentium 4 3.00 Ghz, cable connected ISP.
I downloaded the latest Firmware ver 1.02.8 which solved the problem of connecting and then losing the connection and reconnecting within seconds. I have had no experience with installing router security. I messed up my first try and had to reset the router. After the reset I had the same connection issue. I noticed that the Cisco/Linksys page showed that I had the Firmware upgrade still installed even after my reset but the connection issue remained.
I tried reinstalling the Firmware upgrade. The reinstallation did not work (the progress bar went about half way and then stopped) and I still have the connection/reconnection issue. There are many 3rd. party Firmware upgrades but I must admit that I have no idea if they are safe or even which one I should try, if any. Help and advice would be profoundly appreciated!

The firmware is fine...it will only install one time
Try clicking on Internet Options in the control panel or the Browser>then Connections (Look @ top of the page)
Then> LAN settings (@ the bottom of the page)>Check automatically detect settings >then OK
Close & Restart the Browser....now you should not lose the connectionSIGNATURE...When I post info I assume you have already read this link

Lost wireles connection
Sorry for the delay in answering and thanks for your reply. Unfortunatly this did not solve my problem. One thing I may not have mentioned in my original post is that after losing the connection and when I try to reconnect my network will not appear when I view available wireless networks. This happens even when my laptop is in the same room as the router. When I check further a message tells me that there is no association for this machine. Then a few minutes later (or an hour) it will reconnect. Is there any other solution or anything else I can try? Cheers!

Create a system restore point
Then uninstall your network adapter from the Device manager and reboot
It should reinstall the Nic Adapter on booting ...give the computer time to do this after booting
(it should reinstall the adapter drivers etc...a fix any corrupted files)

Let me know ...if this does not work I have another ideaSIGNATURE...When I post info I assume you have already read this link
