windows 7 loading browser multiple times

there are times when I open Firefox and it opens into many windows. also when I attempt to shut down the computer will not allow me to go to Shut Down after I click on Start.

After shut down I reboot and run CCleaner, SpyBot, Malware and Microsoft Security Essentials. Then all is fine for a while.

Is there something else I can do to eliminate this issue in the future?

This usually happens because you chose Firefox as the program to always use for a particular action, such as opening a certain type of file or launching an application to send mail.

The URL you sent is for XP. I did open applications and had many items in there and did not know which ones were causing the problem.

when I clicked on Start this morning to Restart the window went away and I was unable to click on the Shut Down or Restart. It kept disappearing. Then the computer Shut Down. Something is causing this to happen often.

Any more advice?

The info was for firefox...you may have malware or hijacking or a virus

Could even be windows is corrupted...too many things going on to advise...without hands on

Lets see if we can see anything obvious in a log,

Download HijackThis from here http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...HJTInstall.exe to the Desktop.
• Double-click on HJTInstall.
• Click on the Install button.
• It will automatically place HJT in C:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe.
• Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
• Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button
• HijackThis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
• Copy and then paste the entire contents of the log in your post.
• Do not have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Then do this,
Double click the hijackthis Icon on the Desktop, Scroll down to ‘’Open the Misc Tools section” Click it at the bottom under System tools click “Open Uninstall Manager” over to the right click “Save List” Save it to your Desktop so you may find it.

What Anti Virus program are you using? I don't see one! I can recommend a free one!

This one Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows Download it and do a scan with it.

Once all the check marks are placed

• Click Fix checked.
• Close Hijackthis.
• Reboot The computer.
