Embedded links
Hello, All:
This is probably a question for your "ancient history" expert.
I'm running Outlook Express for e-mail on a home made PC with Windows XP Home installed.
Until recently, when I wanted to, I could click on an embedded link in an e-mail and the subject would open in my browser (Firefox). This function has stopped working, and I could not find any reference to it in Help.
Any thoughts?
Thanks and best regards,

Hi,
Try running the System File Check Utility
Here are detailed instructions for XP Click it =====> System File Check Utility-WinXP
A system restore to a time before the issue occurred may also prove helpful.
Let us know.

system file check
OK, so I ran the sfc, which took about 15 minutes and required me to dig out my original Windows CD.
After it ran, nothing happened, so I did a hard boot.
Still nothing doing on opening links from Outlook Express.
Thanks for all your suggestions.

When clicking on a mailto: link in Firefox, Windows will open the default mail client.
To make Firefox open Outlook Express, you simply need to set Outlook Express as your default mail program.
Also, make Firefox your default Browser too
Make Outlook Express Your Default Windows Email Program
To ensure Outlook Express is Windows's default program for all things email:
- Make sure Outlook Express is not running.
- Select Run... from the Start menu.
- Type "msimn /reg" (excluding the quotation marks).
- Hit Enter.
- Wait for, say, ten seconds for the process to finish. Nothing will appear on screen. Do not let that disturb you.
- Launch Outlook Express.
- Select Tools | Options... from the menu.
- Go to the General tab.
- Click Make Default under Default Messaging Programs.
- Click OK

This should work too
Make Firefox your Default Browser
Then;
Selecting an Email Program as Windows' Default Email Client
The common Internet program types (including email applications) are listed on the program tabs of the Internet Properties window/dialog.
Under E-mail, all email programs recognized as such by Windows will be listed: Outlook Express will be among these if it is installed on your computer....this image shows MS Office Outlook....you want to scroll to OUTLOOK EXPRESS
Select Outlook Express from the E-mail drop-down, and click OK to validate your choice.SIGNATURE...When I post info I assume you have already read this link
