    Thanks never the less Joe!

The BIOS is bringing up a reading that looks alienated, honestly. Its different everytime I boot. Characteristics are jumbled and non-legible in some cases.
The Device Manage isnt even registering a DVD/CD-ROM drop down menu / tree.
    Below is the ToolBox result/s.

Lets see if the hardware guy here has any ideas. I'll look at later too.

What is the make and model of this pc, or laptop?

    Hi xtrakt

There's a few oddities here and the machine is old as well so there could be many causes. Yay for process of elimination...

Easy one first, you said you recently changed your power supply, It's possible you don't have enough power for everything. Do you remember the wattage of the previous power supply? 350 is awfully low by todays' standards. Try only connecting 1 optical drive (completely disconnect the 2nd drive) and see what happens. Regardless I would suggest a stronger psu. For a p4 with all the old fixings 450 - 500 would suffice if you have one kicking around. Also check your graphics card (if you have one) requirements.

Also, judging by your errors there, you have 'time' issues. Check (in windows and bios) if your date and time are set correctly. If if you're sure, double check. If it wasn't correct in windows, fix it, then run windows update (just cause those errors are annoying ) Still check the clock in your bios as well.

By the age of the machine and the comment about the bios, I would look into changing the bios battery. Bios not reporting things correctly, losing time, etc. arepossible warnings that your battery is dying. This definitely isn't a windows issue if your bios isn't reading correctly either. If the bios time is off, fix it then reboot and check again. Basically you're looking to make a change to the bios and see if it keeps the change or if it resets itself. To replace it, look for a watch battery on your motherboard, completely disconnect all power, remove the battery, buy one to match and install it, reboot the machine.

Zep... Re the Microsoft Fixit... I have had this problem on two occasions, one with and XP machine and once with a Vista machine. The Fixit didnt work... BUT... when I followed the instructions given in the 'Let me fix it myself' section on both occasions the snag disappeared and full operation of the respective drives was restored.

    Hi whitenoiz,

Your comments are much appreciated. We will keep that in mind. In xtrakt's situation the BIOS and possible power supply issue as Mich pointed out would need to be addressed first before moving forward with his / her issue.

    Hi extrakt,

Is this the same computer that you posted logs for in the spyware forum:

Unable to open / install ANY anti-virus app / prog (Super + Mal + HJT log/s includ.)
I am currently taking a degree in Malware Removal, and during this time, it is not appropriate for me to offer any assistance in the analysis of or the removal of Malware. Thank you for understanding.

If you think you might be infected with malware or have recently cleansed your computer of malware without the help of an expert, please read and follow the instructions in How to Start Removing Viruses and Spyware from your Computer. @Zep: HP Pavilion - Microsoft Windows XP - Home Edition V.02' - Service Pack 3

@Mich: The BIOS time / date is correct As for the power supply query the original one which recently failed as a 300W unit and was replaced with a 350W. I have also ONLY connect one of the two optical drive/s and vice versa swapping / changing EVERYTHING possible to no 'finally' moment coming of all the attempts.

    Hi xtrakt,

We can't work 2 threads at a time, since you posted in the Spyware forum, I'm going to ask a moderator either to lock this thread or what ever they see fit to do until you're finished in the Spyware forum. Please only post to the open thread in the Spyware forum. If no Malware is found you can then return to this thread.
