    Hi premid1,
    Welcome to Help2Go

What is the operating system installed?

    "Thoughts"
Sounds like you have some kind of Automatic Backup going on maybe.

Recovery partition usually the "D" Drive is a factory made partition to help recover the system back to factory settings, so you don't want to fool with just yet by deleting anything. It normally has less space which is just needed to successfully perform Recovery. It's possible some back ups are going to the "D" drive (Partition) and may be filling it up...

Please download MiniToolBox http://download.bleepingcomputer.com...iniToolBox.exe and run it.

    Checkmark following boxes:
    • List Installed Programs
    • List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click Go and post the result.

    Joe

Hi: Operating system is Windows 7 Home. I ran the MiniTool Box but I don't know how to post the results.
Memory Info: % of memory in use: 46%
    Total Pysical Ram: 4095.11MB
    Available Pysical Ram: 2206.83MB
    Total PageFile:8188.42MB
    Available pagefile: 5986.34MB
    Total Virtual: 4095.88MB
    Available Virtual:3981.35MB

    Parititions:
    1 Drive C: (OS) (fixed) (Total:74.52GB) (Free:29.37 GB) NTFS
    2 Drive D: (Data) (fixed) (Total: 208.92GB (Free:0.02GB) NTFS

I didn't see anything as to what went on Disk D., but am inclined to think it could have been backups, like you are thinking. Only other stuff on the report were Installed programs.

Don't know if this helps to determine what I should be doing. Many thanks for your prompt help.

    Hi

    Drive D: (Data) (fixed) (Total: 208.92GB (Free:0.02GB)
    (208.92GB) -(.02GB) = 208.9GB Something is taking up 209.9GB of space on "D"

    WinDirStat
The program scans your hard drives and shows you a detailed summary of what's taking up space on your disk in the form of a colorful graphic. Each file type (MP3, ZIP, EXE, JPEG, etc.) is assigned a color in a collage of squares that are large or small, depending on how much space that file type is using.

http://windirstat.info/wds_current_setup.exe <------Download program from here, to find out what's taking up almost 210Gb of space. Click the link, on the page your taken to, wait for the window to open, choose Save File, save it to the desktop and run it, let it do it's thing. Report back and tell us what files are showing.

What I find odd here is that the "D" drive even has that much space available on it, and the ''C'' drive is rather small compared to the "D" drive at approx 104 GB total, to me it looks like all your files are on "D" My documents etc. From research this Laptop comes with a verity of hard drive sizes including a 320GB drive that seems to be what you have, as I said from my experience the "D" is usually small compared to the "C' and is usually defined as a recovery partition used to recover the Laptop to factory settings. I'm wondering if the drive was repartitioned, maybe by a former owner, did you purchase this new? Lets see what windirstat says about the contents of the drive.

You should also be able to see the "D" drive in "Computer" Click start, click computer and look in there for "D" at that point you can double click "D" and see what folders / files are on it.

Looks like backups from 2011 is on Disk D.I bought the computer new at that time. I am going to put those backups on a Flash Drive or aDisk. I am unable to send the results of WinDirStat - can't seem to get it uploaded.Think that should work - giving it a try. Thanks again for all your help.

I had all the backups on D Drive, back into the beginning of 1911, so I removed some of them as they had the same date(?) and the rest of them I put on Flash Drives, that seem to remedy the problem - don't know if that was the right thing to do but it worked. Again thanks for all your help.
