Default Computer keeps turning on & off over and over

I recently replaced my power supply from a 300 watt to a 430 watt. I also replaced my graphics from a Nvidia Geforce 9500 GS to a Nvidia GTX 550 Ti. I plugged in everything in the proper spot, cleaned out the computer with air, and generally checked and double checked everything. I then press the button to turn on the computer and it will stay of for 3-5 seconds and then turn off. It will then turn on again and then off. It will do this until I shut if off. I semi new with computers so any help would be awesome.

    Hi Jaze4209,

    Welcome to Help2Go

Can you tell us the make and model of the computer, if this is self-built, can you provide the Mother Board information or name of it? Name of power supply you replaced?

Can you tell us the operating system that is installed?

***Why did you replace the power supply and Nvidia Geforce card, was this an up-grade or were you having shut down issues before the replacement of these items?

    Finally:

Do you see a Blue Screen flash by right before shut down?

**Power supply's and Graphics cards can be notorious for causing this issue, so it may be advisable to put the old power supply back first and see if that works same with Graphics cards. Sometimes the driver for the Graphics card can cause issue if it's not the correct driver......

It's always possible you may have got a bad power supply too. Cant' rule that out, That's why it's a good idea to start working backwards and putting the old components back in one at a time in an attempt to isolate the problem to power supply and or Graphics card, unless of course this problem existed prior to the replacement of these parts...

Hopefully others will chime in, as more information from you is presented to us,

    Joe

First off thanks for the insight. Here are the specs of my computer:
    Mobo: IPIBL-LB
    OS: Vista
PSU: the original was a 350w made by Delta Electronics Inc.
CPU: Intel Core 2 quad precessor Q6700

I attempted to add the PSU and the graphics card just as an upgrade considering the computer is 4 years old.
I don't see anything on the screen at all. The computer is turning on and off repeatedly by itself until I power it down.
What I did recently is plug everything in and removed the cable from the power supply to the cpu and the computer then
stayed on until I shut it down. I am curious on what this might mean?

Oh yeah, I have tried with 3 different power supplies and the problem is still there.

First unplug the power cable from the back of the computer....then hold the power button on for 30 seconds
Then plug it back in and try a boot

Note: The power cable must be unplugged from the back of the computer and not just @ the power outlet

You may need to use a repair disk and turn off the autoreboot error or via f8

Try this link for the latest driver...if you can get it to boot

Often the CD drivers that come with the video card are outdated

When installing turn off the anti-virus.....but not while downloading the driver

Do not forget to turn the antivirus on again after the driver install

Okay, I unplugged the power cable from the back of the computer and help the power button down for 30 seconds. I still got the same thing happening, I dont know if you meant pressing F8 while it was continuously rebooting but I tried that. I'm still not getting anything on my screen also when it's rebooting continuously. When I remove the CPU power plug it is still staying on though. I do have my old graphics card in the computer also.

Is it possible I shorted the motherboard when I first installed the new PSU and graphics card?

    Hi Jaze4209,

Good advice as usual from abseh1!

When I remove the CPU power plug it is still staying on though.
I am not following you here, CPU is the central processing unit on the motherboard with a fan on top of it, it's basically the computer. There is no direct connection of power plugs.

Is it possible I shorted the motherboard when I first installed the new PSU and graphics card?
Anything is possible, even a missed connection point. It's even more possible that the Ram (Memory) cards could have been damaged. RAM can be very sensitive to voltage spikes and even Static electricity generated while working on the computer. See handling RAM instructions HERE

I would take 1 stick of ram out from the mother board using caution as pointed out in the above link. See how that works. Try each stick of RAM separately in an attempt to resolve the issue.

Good luck and let us know.

    Joe.

    P.S.

Is this your Motherboard ? HERE

I'm having the same problem. I switched my current geforce 8800gs with my other computers 550ti and psu (which was workin fine on my other computer). Once I switched everything it was working fine for 5 minutes. after that i kept trying to turn it on but it lasted less than 5 minutes before it would turn off again.so i put my old psu and 8800gs back and still same problem.
