    Question Ccleaner registry cleaner option

    Hi,
After some advice on Ccleaner registry option.

I was wondering if the registry cleaner could help clean my lapand PC up,
I use Ccleaner for deleting temp files, cookies etc.
I have been looking on the internet and reading some topics on this and thought I would just ask to make sure, it states that you can always use system restore on Ccleaner if a problem occurs. The people who had used the registry cleaner had not had any problems.
Is it wise to use the registry cleaner as I don't have any knowledge of using this option or is it better to leave it alone.
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards Kerry.

Cleaning the registry has no affect on the performance of windows, and is unnecessary and can be a risk, a broken registry is after all a broken windows. All security forums refrain from using them or recommending them and for good reason, it's sometimes difficult for 3ed party registry cleaners to decide what's necessary and what's not regarding the windows registry entries , a wrong entry gets deleted and you could be in a "No Boot" situation where system restore would not be accessible.

How's your computer running? What's the make an model?

    Hi KerryH,

Want us to take a closer look while you're here, follow these instructions please,

Download HijackThis from here http://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/ to the Desktop.
    • Double-click on HJTInstall.
    • Click on the Install button.
    • It will automatically place HJT in C:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe.
    • Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button
    • HijackThis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
Copy and then paste the entire contents of the log in your post.
Do not have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

    Next

Please download MiniToolBox http://download.bleepingcomputer.com...iniToolBox.exe and run it.

    Checkmark following boxes:

    • List content of Hosts
    • List last 10 Event Viewer log
    • List Installed Programs
    • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
    • List Devices (Only Problems)

Click Go and post the result.

    see above!

It looks like it's hanging / freezing everyday, is that what you meant by your computer is freezing?

What's up with all the Yahoo browser entries in the Hijackthis log, are you using IE8 Presented by yahoo or something like that?

This entry here O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [YBrowser] C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\browser\ybrwicon.exe is a yahoo browser running. This may explain why IE8 is freezing all the time.

    Hi Joe,
Yahoo browser was installed by the disc that came with the router when I joined BT Broadband., but I use IE8 by clicking on start, Internet Explorer and then it loads the my homepage which is Yahoo. Do I need to remove Yahoo, if so how do I do that?
    Thanks

    Hi,

Please go your add / remove programs list and uninstall the following entries:

    • BT Yahoo! Applications
    • Yahoo! Software Update

Reboot the computer, post a "New" Hijackthis log.

Let me know if there are any uninstall issues.

    Joe
