    Default Slow internet and/or computer!!!

    Hello Computer World,

I am looking for any programs/tricks to get my internet running at a normal or faster speed. My computer is fast enough until I go to the web then its just an abomination. My computer is rather old (about 8 years) but I feel it should be a little quicker than it is. I run a speed test this morning and it came out to .41 Mbps download speed and 2.75 Mbps upload speed (which is atrocious). This is what I'm working with:

    Comcast high speed internet
    Cisco Linksys E100 router
    D-Link DWA-125 wireless USB adapter
    Windows XP operating system

Like I say, I realize I am not working with the best equipment but I was hoping there may be some tricks out there to speed up the browsing capabilities and clean up the computer. Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for your help

You dont mention which browser you use, how you got the download/upload figures, nor what service pack is installed on WinXP.

Having said that, it still should not show that slow.

Follow the advice here: Before posting read this first!
and let us know how you get on.

    Hi,

Lets take a closer look at the computer since it is 8 years old, We will look at 1 free space, 2 amount of Ram, 3 start up programs, 4 any possible Anti Virus program issues, 5 windows Services, etc, This will give us a great overall view of the computer, and some Idea as to where to start with it, I like to end with a Defag, and a temporary file cleaner.

Download HijackThis from here HiJackThis | Free software downloads at SourceForge.net to the Desktop.
    • Double-click on HJTInstall.
    • Click on the Install button.
    • It will automatically place HJT in C:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe.
    • Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button
    • HijackThis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
Copy and then paste the entire contents of the log in your post.
Do not have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

    Next

Please download MiniToolBox http://download.bleepingcomputer.com...iniToolBox.exe and run it.

    Checkmark following boxes:

    • List content of Hosts
    • List IP configuration
    • List last 10 Event Viewer log
    • List Installed Programs
    • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
    • List Devices (Only Problems)

Click Go and post the result.

    MrDarn,

Sorry I didn't notice the link. I have all the programs on my computer already and ran them a couple of days ago. However I do not have a log so I am currently running them again to get one to submit. Should I submit it here or do it in the Spyware forum?
