Red face connectiong pc to tv to use as monitor and watch movies...

    Hi!

I want to connect my new pc to my older tv to use it as a monitor -- basically just to watch movies. I use my laptop for most other work.

PC has hdmi and vga connection

TV has s-video and the old style vga connection (3 colored plugs)

what's the best way to do it? I thought I could maybe get a hdmi to s-video cable? then use speakers on pc for sound?

    Suggestions?

On a very tight budget so the less I have to buy the better

    Default

    This is very basic

You need a graphics card with TV-Out.

Then you need an S-Video cable (this you have and it is for video) which connects to the card.

Finally you need an adapter which converts S-Video to RCA.

Keep in mind that this only transmit the video to the TV.

If you want the audio on the TV, that will require a sound card with another cable and adapter to connect to the red/white RCA jacks on the TV.

Once you have the TV hooked up, you will need to reboot the computer and enable the TV as a display through the graphic card's display software.
