You need to join the workgoup and network with the same name and use the network password to join

You have three issues on one post...I will address them as we go or probably best to post each separately

    Before You Start
Before you try to install the printer on a Windows 8 computer, you should check to make sure the printer is compatible with the new OS. The link below will give you a list of the printers that will work in Windows 8.

Also... I found this little tidbit of information that seemed to have helped people out with many issues in Win 8

I have tried it.. you may give it a go.

    Go to troubleshooting
    (press win+w >then type "troubleshooting"...without the quotes)

A window opens in desktop. click "fix problems with windows updates".

    Click next...
Windows will search for solutions, but it wont find anything
Then windows will ask if u want to try in administrator mode

Click yes... windows will find and solve the problems.... that's it
    ===============================================
A simple way is to just go to the control panel and click troubleshooting
(in the future you can search anything just start typing a file or program name in Metro/Start)

Or start typing troubleshooting on a blank space on the Start (metro) background

I was just trying to get you finding your way around on Win 8

Grab your Surface, Windows 8 tablet, laptop, or other machine, and put your cursor in the lower left corner of the screen. Right click.

If you did it properly, you should have something like this:

You now have a Start Menu in Windows 8

    My pleasure

Win 8 will auto find any networks and make network printers available too

It is the most user-friendly OS that I have found....including Linux

I know...it draws many that disagree with me...but most have not even used it pass log on and start attacks

There is a learning curve ...I admit
